Dip. Remedial Massage, Cert III in Fitness, First Aid & CPR, ANTA Registration

    Specialist techniques:

Deep Tissue, Remedial, Relaxation/Swedish Massage, Reflexology, Lymphatic Drainage Massage

    Passion:

My journey into massage came from a childhood of being in and out of plaster casts, numerous surgeries and physiotherapy in an attempt to get me on my feet… literally.  I became interested in massage as an occupation after spending time as an adult in physical rehabilitation after a relapse of leg issues. I then chose to study fitness which reintroduced me to the benefits of a holistic approach to treatment and recovery for an individual.

Massage can benefit in so many ways such as relaxing stressed and strained muscles to assisting in rehabilitation after accident or injury. Every person is unique and needs to be treated as such. There is no one size fits all treatment method and my desire is to structure the best treatment plan to assist you to achieve your health goals.

  • Dave Somers
Dave Somers – Chinese Massage (Tui Na)

    Qualifications:

Diploma in TCM / Remedial Massage, First Aid & CPR

    Specialist techniques:

    Acupressure; Trigger Point; Chinese Massage

    Passion:

T.C.M. (Traditional Chinese Medicine) is a broad spectrum of services available to anyone who wishes to take their holistic health to the next level.  As an umbrella scope that includes well known modalities like Acupuncture and Cupping, it is also a health system that focuses on helping the body to achieve harmony and balance on a physical, mental and emotional level.

Dave’s primary skills are in the form of Tui Na (Chinese Massage).  Using the same network of channels (Meridians) and Acupoints as Acupuncture, the process is much like trigger point or remedial massage, only with the focus on maintaining overall health and balance, not just treating the symptoms.

Whether it be a frozen shoulder, tennis or golfers elbow, low back pain or auto immune issues, TCM can be applied  after a brief consult and screening process including  pulse and tongue readings as well as a variety of tests to ascertain the underlying cause to your ailment.

If you are familiar with general western remedial massage or physiotherapy, then you will feel the similarities with Tui Na, plus a range of benefits after the treatment, as the body is treated as a whole entity, not just a collection of acute symptoms.

Health funds claims are available for Bupa, Medibank, NiB and CBHS via request.

    Passion:

I am a Remedial Massage Therapist, Pregnancy Massage Therapist, and an Advanced Lymphatic Massage Therapist, who truly enjoys helping people to be and feel their best selves. I always enjoy a good challenge in getting to the root cause of pain and muscle tension so I can best treat and remedy a persons discomfort by performing a good deep tissue massage, releasing tension and resetting those muscular imbalances. I like to deliver an experience to my clients that really works through the pain spots. I can also include myofascial cupping in my treatments. I have a particular interest in pregnancy massage and women’s health, and have completed additional study to better support the clients I treat. I believe that mums work day and night and deserve to come for an experience where they are the focus, they leave their weights and worries behind and are my focus.

I believe the body’s systems are all linked and it is important to take a holistic approach, combining modern medicine and the alternative healing approaches to be the best way to achieve health and wellness. I love being a parent and I delight in being able to support my family, leading a healthy lifestyle, eating well and remaining fit by maintaining a daily home gym routine and walking. Watch this space for continuing my development of what I have to offer.

With more than 15 years of experience in the health industry, I’ve discovered over time that helping to make a difference in people’s lives is one of the most satisfying experiences to have as an Exercise Physiologist.

When I meet with a client, I try to keep in mind that, just like me, they are just trying to live a happy life free from difficulties and problems.  I have found many times before, that by going the extra mile to provide the assistance to help them to achieve this balance, the client gets the most benefit.
